Ways Jesus Taught Us How to Pray

1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Pray continually.”
Luke 11:1 NASB
“It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples."

Prayer is our communication to God on every occasion – when we are thankful, happy, angry, sad or hurting. Revealing our heart before the King who cares for us. When our Lord Jesus chose to leave the heaven and walk among us, PRAYER was His lifeline to God.

All About Prayer
1.    Prayer is more than asking for our petition or needs
2.    Prayer is communicating and tapping to the heart of God.
3. Prayer  is a two-way process. We listen to God’s Word as we read the BIBLE, and we
talk to God as we spend time in PRAYER.
4. Prayer is a communication and it is simply TALKING to God and developing a close
        relationship with our creator.

How our Lord Jesus Pray
Our day start with full of activities that want our immediate attention and pull us in many directions. Our Lord Jesus  may have felt this way. He was in constant demand to heal the sick and debate political issues with the Pharisees. But throughout scripture, we often see him taking a break from these disturbances.

1. Jesus prayed alone. Luke 5:16
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

Our Lord Jesus  did not wait until the crowds were gone and no one was left to debate with him. Instead, we often see him leaving the crowds and sending the disciples ahead of him so that he could spend time alone with God. His prayer life came natural to him.

2. Jesus prayed with others. Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three gather in my name,
there am I with them.”

Jesus not only taught his disciples how to pray, he encouraged them to pray together.  God’s presence in prayer unites us together. We become aware of the needs of others and can provide comfort.

3. Jesus prayed before a meal. Luke 24:30
“When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks,
broke it and began to give it to them.”

Our Lord Jesus used this service to remind his disciples of the blessings God has provided in the food placed before them. Praying before each meal is a reminder that that all things come from God. He is the source of everything we have.

4. Jesus prayed for others. John 17:9
“I pray for them. I am not praying for the world,
but for those you have given me, for they are yours.”

He asked God to bless them with perseverance, unity, and spiritual satisfaction as they witnessed to the world.

5. Jesus prayed for us. John 17: 20
“My prayer is not for them alone.
I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message.”

Our Lord Jesus prayed for us. He has never stopped praying for us. He is our delegate, who stands before the throne of God and intercedes on our behalf.

Our Lord Jesus  prayed because he could do nothing without God, and neither can we. It is important to spend time in prayer every day.
Charles Stanley
“Jesus never taught that God was a vending machine or a loving Father whose desire is to remove the mountains our fears have created.”
